About the Speaker
Melissa Alvarez Thorson
Melissa Alvarez Thorson, PhD, LCPC, LAC, NCC is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Rehabilitation and Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Montana State University Billings and the owner of Wits’ End Therapy, LLC. She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Licensed Addiction Counselor with experience in clinical practice, supervision, and counselor education. Her scholarly work focuses on barriers to mental health care, ethical decision-making, counselor development, and the interplay between boundaries and professional identity. Drawing from her background in both academia and clinical supervision, Dr. Thorson brings a rigorous, reflective, and often provocative perspective to the ethics of counselor behavior and disclosure.
