Dontrell Gilmore

Dontrell "Donnie" Gilmore is a doctoral learner in the Counselor Education and Supervision program (CACREP-accredited) at Old Dominion University, where he also serves as a teaching assistant across multiple undergraduate and graduate-level courses, including Program Development, Crisis Intervention, and Introduction to Substance Abuse. He holds a Master of Arts in Human Services (Marriage and Family) from Liberty University and brings a unique interdisciplinary background spanning counseling practice, academic scholarship, and information technology and cybersecurity. Mr. Gilmore's professional experience includes IT desktop support for government and military clients, HP break/fix, cybersecurity consulting, and small business development. His technical credentials include CompTIA Security+, CompTIA A+, ITIL 4 Foundations, and the Google Cybersecurity Certificate. This foundation informs his applied understanding of data security, network infrastructure, and the ethical integration of technology within clinical and educational settings. In the scholarly domain, Mr. Gilmore has contributed a technology-focused section to a Counseling Children and Adolescents textbook. His research interests include the intersectional experiences of college students with disabilities and the mindsets of African American males navigating poverty and empowerment, the latter of which was presented at the Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling (AARC) Conference. His methodological training spans qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods approaches, utilizing tools such as NVivo, Qualtrics, and SPSS. Mr. Gilmore is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and brings direct service experience, counseling individuals and couples across faith-based and clinical settings. His work reflects a commitment to multicultural competence, equity in counseling education, and the responsible advancement of technology within the profession.
