Shannon O'Mara

Shannon O’Mara, CT is a graduate student pursuing her master’s degree and licensure in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at The University of Akron, with a specialization in child and adolescent counseling. She is a certified crisis specialist with nearly two years of experience supporting 988 Lifeline callers and providing crisis management services to individuals across the lifespan experiencing suicidal and homicidal ideation, non-suicidal self-injury, grief and loss, trauma, and eating disorder–related concerns. Shannon is also a Certified Peer Recovery Supporter through the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. She has presented on the intersection of eating disorders and non-suicidal self-injury in adolescents at the Spring Ohio Counseling Association Conference in April 2025 and on counselor barriers to help-seeking and the use of art in risk assessment at the All Ohio Counselors Conference in October 2025. Shannon has published a scholarly article on the treatment of eating disorders and presented her findings at multiple conferences and remains dedicated to early intervention, holistic treatment strategies, and advocacy efforts that promote client-centered, interdisciplinary continuity of care.
