Ann Steiner

Psychotherapist

Ann Steiner, Ph.D., MFT, CGP, AGPA-F is passionate about making it easier for clinicians to create their own Therapist’s Professional Wills and the healing power of healthy terminations for individuals and groups. 

Dr. Steiner has published over twenty articles and taught about the important, yet taboo topic of therapists preparing for illness, death, relocation or retirement. Her work on the Professional Will has been cited in The Wall Street Journal. Her articles are featured on the CAMFT website and have been published in South Africa, New Zealand and Australia.

She is a former Associate Clinical Professor, UC Medical School, S.F.; Founding Member and Faculty, Psychotherapy Institute’s Group Therapy Training Program, Fellow and former American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA) Board Member, former board member of the National Speakers Association, California, former Board member of the International Human Learning Resources Network, was President of the Northern California Group Psychotherapy Society, served for 9 years as the Co-Chair of AGPA’s Health and Medical Issues Special Interest Group, and is an active member of their Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force.  

Dr. Steiner is an internationally known author, consultant to therapists, lecturer, and popular workshop presenter. The third edition of her book  Help Your Group Thrive: Workbook and Planning Guide,  Routledge Books, London, was recently released by Green Pastures in Chinese. She teaches her pioneering work: The Therapist’s Professional Will in Law and Ethics workshops nationally and internationally and leads three online groups in the SF Bay Area. Currently she is completing an eBook: The Psychotherapist’s Professional Will: Handbook for Managing Planned and Unplanned Absences from Practice, to be released summer, 2025.
