Aprille Woodson
Program Manager of Ethics
American Counseling Association
Aprille Woodson is the Program Manager of Ethics for the American Counseling Association (ACA) and an Adjunct Professor for the Division of Social & Behavioral Sciences at Thomas University in Thomasville, Georgia. Dr. Woodson has a great interest in ethics and seeks to assist counselors in making knowledge-informed ethical decisions as they navigate counseling issues. In her position at the ACA, she is the subject matter expert (SME) for ethics and oversees the program portfolio and initiatives that lead to the development of all ethics-related programs, including managing the ethics adjudication process due to counselor code violations. She also works with the Counseling Compact initiatives at ACA in furthering mental health access throughout the country.
Dr. Woodson’s developed counseling content includes gatekeeping, artificial intelligence, navigating the court and legal system, and crisis and trauma. Dr. Woodson is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia and has clinical experience working in community-based counseling. She works to address ethical issues that directly affect professional counselors. She also has experience working with programmatic initiatives in counselor development and community-based counseling, criminal justice and juvenile justice, consulting with police departments in crisis intervention development, and a long history of child advocacy and protection within state government and juvenile courts. Dr. Woodson received a master’s degree in psychology from Regis University, a PhD in counselor education and supervision from Lindsey Wilson College, and a Juris Doctorate from John Marshall Law School.
