Jessica Davis, LPC-S, LSOTP, LCDC, NCC

Dr. Jessica Davis is a tenured Professor of Counselor Education and a licensed and nationally certified counselor: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Sex Offender Treatment Provider (LSOTP), Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC), and National Certified Counselor (NCC). She also serves as the Assistant Dean of the Graduate School at Texas Southern University. Her career integrates academic scholarship, clinical expertise, and higher education leadership, all focused on advancing trauma-informed practice, counselor education, and graduate student success. As a faculty member, Dr. Davis teaches, mentors, and supervises graduate counseling students, preparing them to address the complex realities of trauma, inequities, and diverse client needs. She has taught supervision, group counseling, counseling techniques, and clinical practice, consistently weaving trauma-informed and culturally responsive strategies into her pedagogy. She has served on more than fifty dissertations, including as an external member for other institutions, underscoring her commitment to scholarship and student advancement. Her research emphasizes traumas impact on adolescents in residential care, structured treatment planning, and evidence-based interventions. In private practice, Dr. Davis specializes in trauma-specific interventions, counseling individuals and families coping with abuse, loss, addiction, and systemic barriers. This clinical work informs her teaching and supervision, grounding her academic contributions in real-world practice. As Assistant Dean, she has led initiatives such as the Graduate Resource Center, Graduate Degree Plan Week, and advising accountability systems. These efforts strengthen retention, completion, and equity while supporting the universitys advancement toward research excellence. Dr. Davis also demonstrates strong service and advocacy. She has held leadership roles at the local, state, regional, and national levels, including with the Houston Counseling Association, NACADA, TEXAAN, and TxGAP. She has led graduate student engagement initiatives and community-based projects such as health fairs and mentoring through Dancing4Diabetes. A proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, she contributes to Physical and Mental Health initiatives. A frequent presenter, she speaks on counselor supervision, trauma-informed pedagogy, and culturally responsive practice.
