John Beninato, LMHC-D, NCC, CRC

John Beninato is a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC-D) who owns and operates an outpatient psychotherapy practice in New York. He began his career working in substance use research at the University of Kentucky after completing his Bachelor’s in Psychology at the University of Connecticut. His experience includes a range of settings including clinical and research-based and has worked with a diverse range of people with disabilities and backgrounds. While completing his Master’s degree, John worked with people with disabilities (including physical, mental health, and developmental diagnoses) living in supportive housing across New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
In addition to his psychotherapy practice, John is an adjunct instructor at New York University in the Department of Applied Psychology where he teaches foundational counseling courses to Master’s students. John also works for Rutgers University assisting with disability and employment related research. Additionally, he has worked as an expert consultant with businesses and organizations seeking to develop employee mental health wellness workshops and trainings. He has presented on introversion and extroversion in the workplace as well as stress management and burnout prevention. He has also facilitated therapeutic and supervisory groups. In addition to his LMHC, John is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) and is passionate about helping people navigate difficulties in their lives while also exploring the identities they hold and how they interact with their experiences.
