PPS00 - Opening Session: Trauma-Focused Pathways: Healing and Restoring Dignity in Survivors of Human Trafficking
Survivors of human trafficking often present with complex trauma that challenges even seasoned clinicians. This session examines how trauma-focused care can be applied to support their healing with both clinical precision and deep compassion. Dr. Araujo will review evidence-based models of trauma treatment, illustrate ways to integrate survivor voices into the therapeutic process, and emphasize the core principles of safety, trust, and empowerment in counseling. Participants will leave with practical interventions to promote post-traumatic growth and strategies to advocate for systemic change that addresses the broader contexts of exploitation and recovery.

PPS30 - Closing Session: How to Weave Strengths and Wellness into Your Work with Clients who are Depressed or Suicidal
Working with clients who are depressed and/or suicidal can be stressful and emotionally draining. Although we should always come alongside clients and their negative and depressive emotions, lingering too long with negative emotions can be counterproductive for clients and emotionally difficult for counselors. In this closing keynote, John Sommers-Flanagan will describe three psychological and neuroscience-based principles for why embracing a strengths-based and wellness orientation is preferred. Together, we will experience at least two practical strategies for generating positive emotions in our clients and in ourselves.
